Bishopville, South Carolina, which is centrally located in the Pee Dee region of the state, has been referred to as the “Garden Spot of the Carolinas.” The City of Bishopville which has a population of slightly less than 3,500 residents is conveniently located only 3 miles from Interstate 20 and approximately 30 minutes from Interstate 95. We are less than an hour’s drive to the state capitol of Columbia where Interstates 20, 26, and 77 intersect.
Greater Bishopville recognizes our city is home to a rich heritage of people, places, and experiences. Downtown Bishopville features many beautiful architectural turn of the century buildings—many of which have been restored and are the homes to viable businesses and venues today such as Crossroad Outdoors, The Iron Gallery, the Accidental Artist, and the soon-to-open Swamp Log Artesian Gallery and Get Down Pound bakery. Other small businesses are located in our historic downtown including a florist, drug store, professional offices, computer repair store, pawn shop, and sandwich shop where citizens and visitors can shop and conduct business. The downtown area offers many learning opportunities through its museums and historic homes including the SC Cotton Museum, the Veterans Museum, the Opera House, the Flag Park honoring our military and Doc Blanchard, SC’s only Heisman Trophy recipient, the James House, and the beautifully restored building that is home to the Lee County Library and a branch of Central Carolina Technical College.
Bishopville is the county seat for Lee County, and our historic Courthouse is another example of beautiful architecture. Within 3 minutes of downtown Bishopville, visitors will find the nationally recognized Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden and located nearby are well-known local eateries. Lee County and the City of Bishopville offer visitors scenic state and city parks. Lee State Park has walking and horseback trails in a tranquil setting for recreation. Bishopville’s city parks offer a locale for the recreational enjoyment of its citizens.
